| Volunteer Week: Letter to
the Editor
Dear
Editor:
Volunteers truly make a difference in our communities,
and blessed they should be! In the words of a great woman, Ethel
Percy Andrus: “It is only in the giving of oneself to others
that we truly live.” Recently, a volunteer shared her sentiments
with us on how volunteering has given back to her.
Thank you Meals-on-Wheels for more than one reason. I know
that you fill a great and important need in many communities. Just
think of the elderly and disabled who could not live at home, if
not for the hot meals that you provide.
Then, for my own selfish reason. I like the way I feel about
myself as a volunteer for Meals-on-Wheels. I, myself, am an older
lady, and there are not too many things I can still do for my community.
Meals-on-Wheels has allowed me to do just that. I love the people
on my route, and I believe they love me too, as well as all the
others who deliver to them. I know their gratitude is tremendous.
There are times that we are the only contact with these individuals
all day.
There is a personal feeling of self worth and joy in service.
On behalf of my new found friends and certainly for myself, thank
you.
–Velma DeGano, Meals-on-Wheels volunteer
In honor of National Volunteer Week, April 17-23, we want to thank
the many volunteers that dedicate their time to Meals-on-Wheels,
their participation in this week’s activities, and all those
that brought a friend this week.
Volunteers are essential in the day-to-day operations of Meals-on-Wheels,
as well as the many other organizations throughout our communities.
May each of you continue to be blessed by giving of yourself. In
behalf of those we serve, THANK YOU!
Sincerely,
Amy Jackson, Director of Development
