| 18th Annual Golf Benefit Goes
Over the Top!
The
18th Annual Meals-on-Wheels Golf Benefit, played September 10th
at the Lake Pat Cleburne Golf Course, was the most successful golf
benefit ever held for Meals-on-Wheels. “The monies raised
by the event to support Meals-on-Wheels exceeded $58,000,”
said Mike Lehrmann, Golf Chairman. “The support shown, from
golfers and sponsors and volunteers and everyone involved was truly
incredible!” Lehrmann added.
With a full field—morning and afternoon—golfers and
volunteers enjoyed a fun-filled day of food and fun! Along with
sponsors, 256 golfers, and over 100 volunteers, the event raised
much needed monies to feed the homebound elderly and disabled persons
in our community.
Top-flight winners were the first place Rosser team with Blake
Curtis, Scott, Monty and Gene Rosser; the second place Accents team
of Randy Pitcock, George Marshall, Mark Williams, and Keith Winnit;
and the third place team of Jeff Vanlandingham, Bryan Gaydos, Ryan
Lofton, and Shane Harris. Bottom flight winners were the Valley
Innovative Services team with Ben Culp, Tim Craft, Orlando Quiroz,
and Mario Quiroz; the Colonial Savings team with Ray Triplett, Loyd
Hudzietz, Joe George, and Jeff Williams; and the Dang Gym team with
Bob Ed Watson, Scott Watson, John Dang, and Boyd Fisher.
The morning “Closest-to-the-Pin” winner was Barry Toney
at 18” and the afternoon winner was Robert Damron with 7’
6 ½.” The prizes given away to the winners totaled
over $5,000! In addition this year, there were lots of great raffle
prizes valued at over $2,000 given away, including round-trip Southwest
Airline tickets, Texas Rangers, Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Stars, Dallas
Mavericks tickets, and much more!
Lehrmann credited the day’s huge success to everyone that
participated, supported, and helped put the event together. “The
community rallied in support of Meals-on-Wheels to help us raise
this money. This will help us feed a lot of needy homebound people,
and that is what this event is all about! And to those who helped
make this all possible, we are truly thankful!”
Local media, KTFW 92.1 FM, Cleburne Times-Review, and the Star
Group papers promoted the event and KTFW was there for a live remote
during the big day, which helped in the success of the event.
Special thanks goes to the Cleburne Lions Club who cooked grilled
chicken sandwiches all day long. “We believe in what Meals-on-Wheels
is doing for our community, and we look forward to this event every
year,” said Lion Neal Logan.
Again, a BIG thanks goes out to all those people who made this
event so successful. Meals-on-Wheels will see you next year at the
19th Annual Golf Benefit! And a BIG thanks to our Sponsors!
