National Philanthropy Day
Meals-on-Wheels of Johnson & Ellis Counties celebrated the
27th Annual National Philanthropy Day on November 15 by honoring
The Waxahachie Foundaiton at a luncheon held at the Renaissance
Worthington in downtown Fort Worth. The annual event was sponsored
by the Association of Fundraising Professionals. Over 500 people
gathered to honor non-profit organizations, private foundations,
corporations, clubs and individual donors from all over North Texas.
The Meals-on-Wheels Board of Trustees chose The Waxahachie Foundation
as this year’s honoree because of their ongoing quarterly
donations to Meals-on-Wheels over the last several years. “Their
support has been incredible to Meals-on-Wheels providing over 5,000
meals to the Ellis County community,” said Vinsen Faris, executive
director.
“The Waxahachie Foundation not only supports our work, but
countless others in the Waxahachie area. Foundations like them are
essential to making what we do possible,” he added.
National Philanthropy Day is the special day set aside each year
to recognize and pay tribute to the great contributions that philanthropy
- and those people active in the philanthropic community -- have
made to our lives, our communities and our world. The theme for
National Philanthropy Day this year was "Change the World with
a Giving Heart." Past Meals-on-Wheels’ Philanthropy Day
honorees include Walgreen’s Distribution Center, Fleta Rick
Walls Charitable Trust, Art Norton, Community Bank, United Ways
of Johnson County, West Ellis County , and Greater Ennis, Lowell
& Shirley Smith, The Alton & Fay Talbert Memorial Fund,
The Heritage Assembly, Mrs. Pat (Mary Anne) Wilkirson, and Bank
of America Cleburne Banking Center.
